Abstract

The electromagnetic local density of states (EM-LDOS) near the surface of a graphene-covered hyperbolic metamaterial consisting of a periodical array of silicon carbide (SiC) nanowires is investigated theoretically. A new peak from the contribution of the hyperbolic mode (HM) appears in the EM-LDOS spectrum besides two ordinary peaks which are from graphene plasmon and the coupling of graphene plasmon with surface phonon polaritons (SPhPs), respectively. When the filling volume of SiC over the total structure increases, the HM peak becomes narrow with a decreasing amplitudes. Comparing with the other two peaks, HM peak is not sensitive to the chemical potential of graphene. Furthermore, the effect of distance on EM-LDOS is also studied, both the graphene plasmon and HM play important role to EM-LDOS at smaller distance, while SPhPs dominates at larger distance.
