Karma Yoga: a strategy to address employee disengagement

Abstract

The pandemic has reshaped workplaces into a ‘new normal’ marked by disruptions, leading to new business models, hybrid and remote work, and changing employee priorities. HR leaders now need to prioritize engagement strategies focusing on employee well-being. Understanding employee engagement and well-being is crucial, with only 23% actively engaged globally, while 44% experience high-stress organizations can address these challenges by adopting Karma Yoga approach toward work as discussed in the Bhagavad Gītā, emphasizing selfless action, duty fulfillment, and aligning work with individual purpose to enhance employee engagement and well-being. This study employs an integrated literature review methodology and building models by content analysis of scriptures. This study examines how Karma Yoga way of working can improve employees’ perspectives, in fostering collaboration, motivation, and engagement through holistic well-being. This approach is unique because it investigates how ancient philosophies can be applied as practical solutions to modern workplace challenges, contributing to discussions on holistic employee growth and organizational achievement.
