Sustainable Remanufacturing of E-waste: An Integrated FDM and AHP Approach in Indian Context

Abstract

The escalating use of electronic devices has become indispensable, becoming the linchpin of modern society. However, this surge in electronic consumption has led to a corresponding rise in e-waste, posing significant environmental challenges. While some firms tackle e-waste management, their efforts often fall short. Remanufacturing, a key strategy alongside reuse, refurbishment, and recycling, holds promise for addressing this issue. This study delves into e-waste remanufacturing in the Indian context, identifying six pivotal factors through the Fuzzy Delphi Method and Analytical Hierarchy Process. Customer perception towards remanufactured products and management vision emerge as paramount. This research presents insights for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and academics, providing a framework for enhanced decision-making in e-waste remanufacturing. By examining the challenges and potential of remanufacturing in India, the study supports the formulation of strategies aimed at reducing environmental degradation while generating economic benefits. It also highlights the need for policies and incentives to encourage remanufacturing as a sustainable practice, positioning India and similar developing countries to lead in innovative e-waste management solutions that align with circular economy principles.
