Abstract

Future production and supply chain management and control will be digitised and mechanised, extending from conception and semi-products development to the final goods and even imported into the consumer’s dwelling with smart home technology—domotics (residential automation denoting systems able to automate a residence or any kind of buildings). This can be perceived as the further incorporation of technology into clever planning, fostering the move towards an ecologically balanced global environment. Operations research (OR) holds crucial importance within industrial engineering. The instruments and approaches required to tackle intricate industrial engineering challenges are facilitating improved choices. With this awareness, ADINGOR, the Spanish association of industrial management engineers, has brought together researchers to follow the latest ideas since 1986. This academic article examines the evolution and impact of OR within industrial engineering, particularly focusing on contributions from the Iberian Peninsula, as mirrored in the Central European Journal of Operations Research (CJOR) in the last decade, especially since 2022. Hence, this article reviews the Iberian OR and industrial engineering-based papers published in this journal since 2022, when the Industry 4.0 (I4.0) concept was developed, to the Industry 5.0 (I5.0) and other innovations. Here, 41 papers are reviewed based on: (i) objectives; (ii) application context; (iii) modelling approach; (iv) development of algorithms or use of software tools; and (5) final achievements.
