Knowledge Networks: The Case of Scientific Interaction at a Distance
This paper models the economic choices involved in the interaction and collaboration among scientific investigators from alternative perspectives: optimization, cooperative game, and system optimization. If one views the special affinity of two scientific investigators as a random variable, the probability of that collaboration under certain assumptions declines with distance generating the classical gravity model.
