Abstract
The present article aims to explore the topic of generations and the differences between them in terms of work and workplace. This issue is poorly developed in our country, but at the same time it enjoys great popularity and relevance in the scientific community abroad and in the Bulgarian mass media. As interest in the concept of generations grows, so does criticism of it. There is a generally shared understanding in the scientific literature that the complexity of the phenomenon requires more research on the conceptualization, definition and measurement of groups that can be defined as generations, in order to ensure that they are unique constructs capturing unique variations. The article examines the difficulties and challenges that researchers of generations encounter, as well as proposals for possible solutions to the problems related to the identification of generational differences, which are the main focus of research. Synthesizing the different stands, at the end of the article, the perspective of a framework is proposed, which is about to be empirically tested with the potential to remove a significant part of the tensions that the topic provokes in the scientific literature. The perspective is based on the understanding that significant social events experienced and shared with peers, parenting, and behavioral patterns during adolescence and early youth create an identity with relatively enduring attitudes that a person carries with them into adulthood. These attitudes pass through the psychological contract with the organization and can serve to predict future behavior in the workplace.
