Abstract

As global efforts to combat climate change intensify, carbon pricing mechanisms–carbon taxes and cap-and-trade systems, also called emissions trading system (ETS) – have become crucial tools for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. However, coverage, effectiveness, and economic impact vary across countries and sectors. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the latest global trends in carbon pricing, examining differences in carbon tax and ETS implementation, revenue generation, and policy effectiveness. Additionally, it explores the role of sectoral disparities, fossil fuel subsidies, and international cooperation in shaping the future of carbon pricing.
