Abstract

The aim of the article was to identify trends in consumption in high-income households. The material consisted of individual data provided by the CSO. One of the research methods was canonical correlation analysis. High-income households are mainly those run by people with higher levels of education, with fewer members, located in metropolitan areas or villages. In high-income households, spending on necessity and other goods was at the top of the expenditure hierarchy. The amount of these expenses was mainly determined by the age of the head of the household. In those households, spending on services related to leisure time as well as spending on clothing and footwear depended on the household location and the age of its members, in the first place. In high-income households, a significant part of the expenditure is directed towards the category covering gifts. This may indicate the participation of households in collaborative consumption.
