Abstract

The author writes brief account over the main work of Hannut Harnisch, one of the most important agrarian historian in the one-time GDR. The thesis of Harnisch reviews the traditional ideas about the "Prussian Way", upholding the issue that Prussian land reforms contributed to create a peasant class over the small-scale peasantry whose demand was the lever for Industrial Revolution. Mooser supports the revisionist line of argument stating that neither the legal process was relevant, nor the inclusion to the market made disappear many peculiarities of peasant economy, nor the relationship between agrarian process and Industrial Revolution was so obvious.
