Abstract

The purpose of this article is to show some of the theoretical and basic problems relating to the link between peasants and the market, from an interdisciplinary perspective. The starting point hypothesis is that these relations contain a continuous friction between peasants' role within the market and the keeping of their existing rural way of life. The revision of the theories about peasants' economic behaviour leads us to state the concept of adaptation as a theoretical tool to analyse the peasants' commitments with the market, in the light of the accomplishment of this research work.
