El Turismo Como Fuente De Riqueza En Galicia: Analisis De Algunas Experiencias

Aunque con algunas experiencias previas, Galicia se mantuvo ajena al bum turístico que en los años sesenta experimentó buena parte del territorio español y fue a partir dela aprobación del Estatuto de Autonomía cuando se comienzan a sentar las bases del desarrollo del turismo en la Comunidad. En las últimas décadas la actividad turística experimentó un importante crecimiento contando en la actualidad con una oferta importante y diversificada. Una de las características más importantes de la actividad turística en Galicia es, precisamente, que no depende de un único tipo de turismo. En este trabajo se analiza el Camino de Santiago como un recurso estratégico del turismo en Galicia, así como el potencial de otras modalidades de turismo como son el turismo termal y el turismo rural. Paralelamente al crecimiento de la oferta, la demanda también experimentó un auge importante. El turismo representa en la actualidad más del 11% del PIB y del 12% del empleo de la Comunidad. Incrementar la duración de las estancias, reducir la estacionalidad turística, incrementar el peso del turismo internacional y orientar la actividad hacia una senda compatible con el desarrollo sostenible, son algunos de los retos a afrontar en un futuro inmediato. In this work the Camino de Santiago is analyzed as a strategic tourism resource in Galicia, as well as the potential of other tourism modalities such as thermal tourism and rural tourism. Parallel to the growth of supply, demand also experienced an important boom. Tourism currently accounts for more than 11% of GDP and 12% of Galicia´s employment. Increasing the duration of stays, reducing tourist seasonality, increasing the weight of international tourism and guiding activity towards a path compatible with sustainable development are some of the challenges to be faced in the next future.
