Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to argue how the use of ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) by companies in the Catalan chemical sector provides an improvement in productivity, and therefore, business competitiveness (Díaz-Chao & Torrent-Sellens, 2010). From the data for a sample of the Catalan chemical sector (82 companies), the total factor productivity (TFP) is estimated, including the ITC variable for the period of time between 2010 and 2015, in order to determine the influence that this variable has on the international competitiveness of companies. That is why the microdata extracted from the Sistema de Análisis de Balances Ibéricos (SABI) database, published by Bureau van Dijk Electronic Publishing (BvDP), are used to build the data panel. The results obtained show a positive relationship between the use of ICTs and productivity, which closely follows the international economic cycle, as well as the existence of a relationship between productivity improvement and internationalization.
