El Turismo En Ecuador. Nuevas Tendencias En El Turismo Sostenible Y Contribución Al Crecimiento Económico

Abstract

En las últimas décadas el turismo se ha mostrado como una actividad con potencial para diversificar la estructura económica de los países frente a actividades económicas tradicionales. Ecuador, un país con una estructura productiva muy dependiente del sector primario, con la necesidad de diversificar su matriz productiva y generar nuevos ingresos que mejoren su economía, ha impulsado una serie de iniciativas en el sector turístico.El turismo de masas evidencia importantes problemas como la masificación, la degradación de las costas o la pérdida de calidad en la experiencia turística. Ecuador puede aprovechar las experiencias de otros países, apostando por un modelo turístico más sostenible. Dentro de esta línea, en los últimos años el gobierno ecuatoriano puso en marcha el Plan Estratégico de Turismo 2020 (PLANDETUR 2020) y la propuesta del “Turismo Consciente”, iniciativas orientadas hacia la promoción del turismo sostenible. Este trabajo trata de arrojar luz sobre el turismo consciente, un término reciente y en construcción, para referirse a una modalidad de turismo que se apoya en los principios de sostenibilidad y de ética. Se analiza la contribución del turismo a la economía del país a través de un modelo econométrico para el período 1995-2013, cuyos resultados evidencian un equilibrio en el corto y largo plazo. In recent decades tourism has shown as an activity with the potential to diversify the economic structure of countries compared traditional economic activities. Ecuador, a country with a productive structure very dependent on the primary sector, with the need to diversify its productive matrix and generate new revenues that will improve its economy, have spurred a series of initiatives in the tourism sector. Mass tourism, evidence of major problems such as overcrowding, coastal degradation or loss of quality in tourism experience. Ecuador, it can take advantage of the experiences of other countries, betting on a more sustainable tourism model. Within this line, in recent years, the Ecuadorian Government launched the Tourism Strategic Plan 2020 (PLANDETUR 2020) and the proposal of the "conscientious tourism", initiatives aimed at the promotion of sustainable tourism. This work attempts to shed light on the conscious tourism, a recent term and under construction, to refer to a type of tourism that is based on the principles of sustainability and ethics. Discusses the contribution of tourism to the economy of the country through an econometric model for the period 1995-2013, whose results show a balance in the short and long term.
