Abstract

The paper analyzes the problems of keeping the national economy competitive when the country is under international economic sanctions. Iran’s economy functioning under the international economic sanctions was used to study the negative and positive implications for the international competitiveness of the economy under sanctions. Statistical indices characterizing the state of Iran’s national economy for the last two decades including the gross domestic product, the volumes of national exports and imports as well as the foreign exchange reserves were analyzed. The national strategy aimed at sustaining the competitiveness of the national economy in the context of sanctions was studied and its effectiveness assessed.
