Economic essence of «Career» concept

Abstract

Existing definitions, concepts of «career», depending on the width of interpretation, content and approaches to the formulation, are analyzed and systematized. On the basis of the width of interpretation, large and constrained interpretations of economic essence of the «career» concept are defined. Depending on the substantial characteristic, definitions presenting career as: a process; criterion of social adaptability and success in life; sequence of changes of professions, statuses, roles, and types of work; psychological phenomenon; one of the forms of personal fulfillment, are defined. The definitions of «career» from the perspective of target, functional, processing and structural approaches are given. It allows to clarify the essence of «career» concept, by means of defining it as process of changing roles, positions, statuses, positions in society according to the chosen strategy and the content of circumstances which is implemented for providing success in any type of activity on specific criterion or set of criteria.
