Domestic handicraft industry research by society and its technical education in the late 19th century

Abstract

The article considers issues related to the state of the handicraft industry development in the late 19th century, which built up a significant sector of the industrial production. The author draws attention not only to the problems that become apparent during this period in this line of industry, but also to the way of their optimization, which were caused by both governmental and the public organizations activities. The article also brings up an issue of technical education, including the initial and higher one, which should fill the handicraft industry with professionals and give it a chance it to form artels of various types in order to help craftsman to join market relations as soon as possible. It was a paramount task, because in this period the modernization of industry was taking place, part of which was the handicraft industry.
