Abstract

Впервые публикуемая ниже новелла известного основателя американского Дж. Мэйнстринга (1885-1943) институционализма вызвала в своё время немало споров. Это был период становления в США мелкого бизнеса, которому мешали административные силы. Новелла полна намёков, понятных обывателю тех дней. Образ слона позволил противникам Мэйнстринга упрекать его в приверженности к республиканской партии.
