The essence and assessment of the functioning of regional innovation system

Abstract

The article presents importance of the innovation component in modern Russian economy and economic policy. Stated that innovation processes are becoming an important part of regional economic transformation, the author considers the topic of formation, operation and development of regional innovation systems highly relevant. The article summarizes views on the main directions of innovative development of regional economy and importance of this development for formation of the national economy of innovative type. A general conclusion was made concerning the importance of study and purposeful influence upon the regional innovation system and its elements in their complex interaction.
