Abstract

The article provides an overview of some of the historical stages of the development of ideas about the protection of plants, modern complexity of the situation in connection with the reduction of the availability of fertile soils and the need to shift from extensive to intensive crop production. Discussed the search for the genetic mechanisms of plant resistance to adverse abiotic and biotic environmental factors and trends, based on fundamental studies of the natural protection mechanisms of multicellular organisms, in particular viral infections.
