Abstract

The main VAT types, their advantages and disadvantages are studied in the paper. The analysis has revealed that the almost universal application of the consumer-type VAT is due to the fact that it does not lead to the “cascading effect” the cause of the double taxation of capital assets, and the income VAT and the gross product VAT that are rarely used in practice discourage saving and spending, discriminate capital-intensive investments.
