Abstract

В статье рассказывается об опыте модернизации металлургического производства на Нижнетагильских заводах Демидовых в 1840-1850-е годы. Отмечается, что ориентация на экспорт чугуна и стали в Западную Европу выступала действенным стимулом для совершенствования технико-технологической базы горных заводов Среднего Урала. В то же время подчеркивается противоречивый характер процесса модернизации, проявлявшийся, в частности, в нежелании администрации предприятий переходить на использование каменного угля в качестве основного вида топлива.
