Abstract

В 90-х гг XIX в. центр внешнеполитической активности России переместился на дальний Восток, где она столкнулась с интересами Японии. Особенно остро русско-японское соперничество проявилось в Корее. Россия в период, когда Министерство иностранных дел возглавлял А.Б. Лобанов-Ростовский, успешно способствовала отстаиванию независимости корейского государства. При этом министр стремился решать все вопросы исключительно дипломатическими методами, всячески избегая военного столкновения с Японией из-за Кореи.
