Abstract

The paper suggests the results of analysis of major trends in development of the savings market in Russia between 1991 and 2004. During this period the Russian domestic economy underwent fundamental changes. The formation of a market mechanism, the emergence and evolution of bimodal banking system, as well as the emergence of new organizational forms of savings determined saving behaviour of households during the investigated period and changes in an institutional pattern of savings market in Russia.
