Uma nota sobre as importações brasileiras de produtos manufaturados

Abstract

There have been several estimations for an import demand equation in Brazil. All the authors have used annual data, in the absence of information for output on a quarterly basis in this paper we have used an output series recently calculated by Modiano and Lopes (1985) to estimate an import demand equation for the period 1976.I - 1984.IV. We attempted to capture import rationing by including net reserves/ external debt as ao explicative variable in our regressions. The estimatives obtained are reported in Section 2. In Section 3 we present some progressions for the evolution of the import volume munder different assumptions on the output rate of growth.
