Abstract

This article attempts to give an explanation for wage differences among countries. A preliminary analysis of Mexican, U.S. and Canadian data from a Marxian perspective reveals that low Mexican wages are due to Mexico's lag in productivity which cannot be overcome in the short term. Thus it seems that unions in the three countries will still have to cope with these differences for a long time.
