Abstract

The content of Environment and Planning A relating to a six-year period is broadly reviewed. This illuminates some features of the styles of research of its contributors and provides the basis for some speculations on research policy. It is argued that research funding and training at the institutional level, and corresponding decisions at the individual level, should be more ambitious in scope. Five suggestions are made to help achieve this.
