Abstract

The death of Chairman Mao Tse-tung in September this year has plunged China in a political turmoil in which the leaders of the so-called Radical Group have been arrested and removed from all their positions in the Communist Party of China, and Mr. Hua Kuo-feng has emerged as the supreme leader. These developments raise a host of questions about the stability of the Chinese political system and the future of Maoism itself, Even Mr. Hua Kuo-feng's leadership has not remained unchallenged. The whole situation in China is in a flux. Numerous explanations and clarifications have been put out by the Chinese press and radio. We publish here some of the more important statements. More of these will be published in subsequent issues. ——EDITOR.
