Abstract

This article presents a brief synopsis of the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service's current rural community assistance efforts. The Forest Service, in close cooperation with rural America, has refocused its efforts from strict natural resource community production to sustainable investment in the future of rural communities. By working as a partner with rural America in identifying community needs and solutions, the Forest Service wants to help rural residents pursue and realize opportunities based upon available natural resources. The Forest Service mission explicitly recognizes the agency's commitment to help rural America address rural development concerns and remain a vital contributor to the nation's competitiveness.
