Migration to the United Kingdom and the Emergence of a New Politics

Abstract

Britain has had three different types of guest workers. One has been the Irish with continuing rights in the United Kingdom. Another has been guest workers as found in most other European countries. The largest group has comprised residents of former Commonwealth countries who come to live permanently. This article examines the latter group as they become partially assimilated into the British society, economy, and polity.
