Le football professionnel en Europe est-il en crise ? Une réponse régulationniste

Abstract

L’identification d’une crise financière au sein du football professionnel en Europe a renforcé l’idée selon laquelle il est indispensable de le « réguler » sur le modèle nord-américain. Concrètement, un contrôle accru de l’activité des clubs est préconisé par le biais de l’instauration de nouveaux dispositifs réglementaires. Cependant, en mobilisant la théorie de la régulation, le concept de régulation dépasse les seules problématiques de réglementation. C’est précisément l’objectif de cet article : il aboutit à l’identification d’un processus de régulation qui souligne les modalités de reproduction dans le temps et dans sa forme actuelle du football professionnel européen en tant que système productif. La gestion en déficit des clubs ainsi que leur recours à l’endettement sont identifiés comme des régularités permises par des ajustements institutionnels nationaux et supranationaux. Par conséquent, une nouvelle lecture de la crise financière du football professionnel en Europe est proposée compte tenu de la spécificité de sa dynamique méso-économique.
