Abstract

In this study, we aimed to statistically evaluate the effect of an intervention combining diet and physical exercise on reducing body weight in middle school students. In this sense, we used several experimental parameters: Height, weight, perimeters (arm, hip, abdomen, chest), wingspan and body mass index. In this study, data were collected on these parameters before and after the use of natural supplements, with an interval of 12 months. 2 groups of children were used: an experimental group and a control group, in which natural supplements were not administered, but data were collected using the same time intervals. The students were administered one Spirulina 500 mg capsule and one Safflower Oil capsule once daily for 3 months, followed by a one-month break. This regimen was then repeated for 3 more months, with another one-month break. The results of the paired t-tests for the fold measurements show a significant difference between the before and after treatment values for the abdominal fold parameter (T = 2.34, p = 0.026). The treatment effect is therefore most visible in the abdominal fold changes, where we observe significant differences in the direction of a decrease in this parameter Keywords: middle school students, body mass index (BMI), anthropometrics
