Abstract

Collagen is the main structural protein of connective tissues and plays an essential role in the health of skin, joints, ligaments, tendons and muscle mass. Supplementation with hydrolyzed collagen may support skin elasticity and hydration, reduce joint pain, support muscle protein synthesis and contribute to the integrity of the musculoskeletal system, especially when combined with exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Preliminary evidence also indicates a potential role in maintaining intestinal health. Ingested collagen supports endogenous synthesis rather than serving as a complete substitute. Supplementation is a valuable complementary strategy for preventing tissue damage and maintaining physical performance.
