Differentiating Factors Between The Knowledge-Based Organization And The Classical Organization: A Managerial Perspective

Abstract

There are plenty of approaches for characterizing an organization from a managerial point of view, and when we talk about the knowledge-based organization, things are becoming increasingly complex. This paper is an attempt to synthesize a series of characteristics of some managerial elements, in order to discover a series of factors that influence the changes which occur in the knowledge-based organization. These changes have been approached in terms of management functions and characteristics of the managerial subsystems, fact which led to the identification of ten main factors which include the changes specific to knowledge-based management. The first part of the paper presents the ten identified factors, the next two parts signal the influence of these factors on the managerial functions, respectively of those 5 management subsystems, and finally the conclusions are being presented. It is considered as a prerequisite the fact that the managerial perspective on the knowledge-based organization is by far the most important and greatly affected by the changes made with the establishment of the knowledge-based economy.
