Abstract

The author considers applied aspects of developing small industrial towns of the Southern Urals as exemplified by a singleindustry city Verkhniy Ufaley. Doldrums of many of these towns decreased their attractiveness both for the residents and potential investors into the development of municipal economics. These circumstances makes it necessary to search for relatively easy, real, not requiring high investments and fast-acting decisions, which will provide doldrums recovery for the economy of small industrial towns. The author considers a number of possible strategies: production of extraordinary specialized final product, incorporating of small enterprises into global chains of added value, diversification of town economy, import substitution. The author shows that on the basis of these strategies small and medium enterprises in the long-term prospects can create new highly effective work positions, which will provide the improvement of social and economic health of small industrial towns.
