Abstract

From the standpoint of sociological discourse-analysis and reflexive sociology, the article examines the discursive context of the concept of the "peaceful rise of China" based on the speeches of its author, Zheng Bijiang, and Chinese officials who used this formulation in their speeches from 2002 to 2004. In the study, based on the biographical facts of the author of "peaceful rise", socio-political reflection is shown, as a result of which the concept was formulated. After analyzing the historical experience of the attempts of the rapid rise of Germany and Japan and the attitude towards it in the West, Zheng Bijian proposed to focus the foreign policy vector of the PRC on a peaceful attitude. Subsequently, the most important was the rejection of the concept of "rise" in favor of "development", which was the result of the corresponding sociological reflection.
