A comparative analysis of data obtained during the study of the labor market of the Magnitogorsk urban district and educational programs of additional education offered by educational organizations was carried out. The specific features of advanced training and professional retraining of unemployed citizens were considered and analyzed. In addition, the authors developed recommendations for educational organizations implementing advanced training programs, professional retraining and educational programs of higher and secondary vocational education to meet the existing needs in the labor market of Magnitogorsk. Discussion. The research is illustrated with the experience of "Horizon", the Institute of Additional Professional Education and Personnel Engineering of Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University in the context of the implementation of projects focused on adult education at the level of the region and the state as a whole. A relationship has been identified between the coverage of the population of the region of the Russian Federation by programs of higher and additional professional education and the volume of gross product in the region per capita. The work revealed that, while fulfilling the functions of intellectual potential reproduction, lifelong adult education affects the competitiveness of the industrial region economy, which is one of the socio-economic factors shaping the new image of the region. This result is determined by several factors: timely vocational guidance, retraining in the context of current professions and specialties, the opportunity to obtain new qualifications, as well as increasing the level competencies necessary to perform the job functions.
