Abstract

The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that the coronavirus pandemic was superimposed on the ever-increasing pace of technological change, and it also accelerated the consequences of long-term trends: the disappearance of a number of obsolete professions, the emergence of new forms of organization and division of labor. Some areas of work are becoming obsolete and abolished, and the ever emerging new professions, which the labor market is in need of, are instantly in short supply. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the substantiation of a concept biased in favor of a highly skilled labor force and the theory of displacement of routine work. The purpose of the study is to identify the problems associated with the challenges of telecommuting, as well as to single out the trends in the division of labor tasks in the context of industry automation. The information base of the study is the materials from the open sources such as statistical data from the Federal Statistics Service and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, as well as resources of analytical publications and scientific papers, including materials from international organizations, leading consulting companies, global associations, leading educational institutions and other active participants in the global educational environment and labor market experts. The main results of the study are the explanation of the transformation of academic theories in the context of the impact of the pandemic and automation on the labor market and labor functions; and identification of the long-term trends in the transformation of the professions market. The practical significance of the study is that it will allow the companies to choose strategies for retraining specialists in the face of new challenges and active introduction of new formats of work. It is vitally important for companies to quickly teach employees how to remotely manage teams, how to promote skills of using digital tools, how to increase leadership skills and how to improve decision-making during a crisis.
