Abstract

Historically and geographically, Ekaterinburg has always been closely connected with the neighboring cities. Both Ekaterinburg and the neighboring cities have common housing and labor markets, transport and engineering infrastructure. Ekaterinburg, as the core of this agglomeration, is understandably interested that individual projects on its territory make an integral picture both now and in the future. The article examines practice of inter-municipal cooperation between Ekaterinburg and satellite cities to implement the city development strategy. The authors’ key task is to prove that for strategic management and ensuring strategy implementation of the major city, synchronization of local priorities with strategic development directions of the neighboring cities seems appropriate and efficient. The results of the research will be useful for regional and municipal authorities to develop and update the socio-economic development strategy and territorial planning documents, to elaborate mechanisms for inter-municipal interaction. They can also take a proper place in the structure of scientific knowledge in the field of regional and municipal economics.
