Abstract

In the new European System of Accounts (ESA95) a large part of the official economic data are produced by means of the assumed functional relation between variables. The input-output tables serve for statistical and analytical purposes. The input-output framework of the ESA95 consists of three types of tables: supply and use tables, tables linking the supply and use tables to the sector accounts and symmetric input-output tables. Simultaneous balancing contributes to better estimates in current prices, as well as in constant prices. Supply and use tables are an excellent framework for compiling national accounts data on the production process.
