Abstract

In the last ten years, wine tourism represents one of the routes that enable development in the Macedonian rural areas. The new tourist reality after the end of the covid pandemic has created additional interest among tourists for unique experiences related to visiting a certain destination with local food and wine in close connection with the local community. Practicing wine tourism as a special form creates an opportunity to recognize the tourist destination, creating resilience and a competitive advantage in relation to other tourist destinations. Among the key stakeholders in the development of wine tourism are small family wineries, which are generally located in the rural parts of the country. The Republic of North Macedonia has excellent conditions and potential in the development of wine tourism, since the wine regions are known in Europe, but there is a lack of well- defined wine routes, tasting centers and accommodation facilities in the rural parts of the country. Wine tourism as a special form of tourist offer represents an excellent opportunity for the development of rural areas, the sustainability of destinations and a positive impact on local economic development.
