Abstract

Coagulation and flocculation represents important stages of the treatment process for surface water due to legislative requirements regarding the suspended solids content, pathogens and organic matter in drinking water. It has become a priority for water operators to use flocculants that don’t generate byproducts with impact on human health. The bioflocculants represents an alternative to replace polyacrylamide in coagulation-flocculation processes of surface waters used for drinking water production. The flocculants based on chitin and silicon have high efficiency in terms of reduction of the total organic carbon, dissolved and biodegradable. The mathematical correlation on flocculant doseraw water turbidity is logarithmic and it is influenced by surface water temperature.
