Quem passa fome no Brasil? uma análise regional dos determinantes da insegurança alimentar forte nos domicílios brasileiros

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho é investigar o perfil dos indivíduos que moram em domicílios com Insegurança Alimentar Forte – IAF nas regiões brasileiras, ou seja, que em algum momento tenham sofrido restrição quantitativa de alimentos (fome). Para esse fim, utilizam-se as informações extraídas da PNAD de 2013 referentes à Escala Brasileira de Insegurança Alimentar (EBIA) para construir uma variável dicotômica que representa a fome e, através dessa, obter probabilidades condicionais em um modelo Logit. Na amostra utilizada, 17,5 milhões de brasileiros declararam ter passado fome em algum momento. Os resultados obtidos na análise regional mostram que as chances de ter algum tipo de restrição alimentar são maiores para indivíduos com baixa escolaridade, renda abaixo de dois salários mínimos e que trabalham informalizados. O trabalho contribui para a literatura ao mostrar como fatores distintos da renda ajudam a explicar a fome no Brasil, tais como a estrutura familiar e as desigualdades econômicas regionais.
