Efecto del crecimiento economico en la pobreza en Ecuador

Abstract

La pobreza afecta a millones de personas a nivel mundial. En América Latina en el año 2014, el 28,5% de la población se encontraba en situación de pobreza, porcentaje que aumentó a 29,8% en 2015 y a 30,7% en 2016. Sin embargo, la pobreza disminuyó en Ecuador en 3% entre 2012 ? 2017. El objetivo de la presente investigación es determinar el efecto que produce el crecimiento económico en la en el Ecuador en el periodo 2003-2016. Utilizamos un modelo de regresión lineal de mínimos cuadrado ordinarios con datos que fueron tomados de los Indicadores de Desarrollo del Banco Mundial (2017). Los resultados indican la existencia de una relación inversa entre el crecimiento económico y la pobreza. Con la nalidad de mejorar la robustez de los coeficientes, incluimos variables de control, las cuales mantienen la relación negativa entre el crecimiento y la pobreza. Las implicaciones de política deben orientarse a impulsar el crecimiento económico para disminuir la pobreza, acompañadas de políticas de redistribución de la renta que permitan redistribuir la riqueza.
