Incidencia del ingreso familiar y la educación en el acceso a la canasta básica familiar en Ecuador

Abstract

La seguridad alimentaria es uno de los temas más relevantes en cualquier sociedad pues un elevado porcentaje de la población mundial no tiene acceso a alimentos. El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar los factores que inciden en la seguridad alimentaria, enfocándonos en el ingreso familiar como el medio para acceder a una canasta básica. Utilizamos datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Empleo, Desempleo y Subempleo elaborado por el Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos. La variable dependiente toma el valor de 1 si la familia tiene un ingreso por encima de un umbral y por ende tiene la posibilidad de acceder a una canasta básica de alimentos y si está por debajo de dicho umbral toma el valor de 0. Los resultados encontrados muestran que una persona con niveles más altos de escolaridad y que viven en el área urbana tienen más posibilidades de obtener mayores ingresos. En cambio, las personas que trabajan en el sector privado y son indígenas o afrodescendientes tienen más dificultades para obtener ingresos altos. Una posible implicación de política pública derivada de la presente investigación es que se puede promover el acceso a la seguridad alimentaria mediante un aumento del gasto público y políticas re distributivas.
