Abstract

The global increase in waste generation, driven by accelerated population growth, industrialization and rising consumption, has overwhelmed public waste management systems, necessitating the need for active participation of individuals and institutions in promoting environmental sustainability. Higher education institutions play a crucial role in promoting responsible waste management practices and environmental awareness among students. This study assessed the impact of students’ knowledge and behavioural intentions on waste management in Federal Colleges of Education in Southwest Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted, with a sample of 386 respondents randomly selected from a population of 11,320 students across the four Federal Colleges using Taro Yamane's sampling formula. Data collected through a structured questionnaire were analyzed using SPSS (version 26) and Smart PLS.
