Le commerce équitable et la Convention sur la Diversité Biologique

Abstract

Le commerce équitable est le mouvement socio-économique contemporain le plus ancien sur la scène internationale. Sa contribution à une meilleure prise en compte des conditions sociales de production dans les pays en développement est reconnue par les citoyens et des analystes des pays du Nord comme du Sud. Au moment où la notion d’équité tend à devenir omniprésente dans nos sociétés, ce mouvement initié par la société civile semble ignorer certaines avancées du droit international du développement durable qui la prennent en compte. En 1993, la Convention sur la Diversité Biologique (CBD) a ainsi introduit pour la première fois officiellement la notion de « partage juste et équitable » des ressources génétiques dans une convention internationale. Partant d’une mise en regard des pratiques d’entreprises concernées par le « biocommerce éthique » avec les positions des instances fédératrices du commerce équitable, cet article évoque la nécessité d’une mise à jour des approches développées par le mouvement du commerce équitable en fonction des enjeux de la valorisation de la biodiversité et des savoirs traditionnels associés.
