Abstract

We would like in this article to investigate the ambivalent relations between fair trade and market. Is the objective of development advanced by fair trade compromised or facilitated through the use of market exchanges? Fair trade activists seem very critical towards the market logic, as the market is often seen as a place where strong people exploit weak people. At the same time, for fair trade, market exchanges are the best way to escape from poverty, assistance, and finally reach development. In fact, fair trade allows us to rediscover different forms of market.
