Monetary Policy: Is the Fed’s Response to Inflation Accomodative? - Politica monetaria: le misure della Federal Reserve assecondano l’inflazione?

Abstract

Il lavoro analizza, mediante l’impiego di funzioni di reazione, le misure di politica monetaria adottate dalla Federal Reserve negli Stati Uniti, con particolare riguardo alla risposta della Fed all’inflazione. Lo studio fornisce alcuni importanti e talora inattesi risultati. Si dimostra che la risposta monetarista all’inflazione è di adattamento e non di contrasto. Questo vale anche per i periodi 1969-70, 1974-75 e 1979-80, periodi nei quali la politica della Fed è stata comunemente ritenuta anti-inflazionista. La lotta all’inflazione non è stata molto severa durante le amministrazioni democratiche, mentre ha assunto una posizione meno permissiva nel corso delle amministrazioni repubblicane.
