The Inflationary Process in Greece: An Empirical Investigation - Il processo inflazionistico in Grecia: un’analisi empirica

Abstract

Il lavoro si propone di analizzare empiricamente 1’incidenza di un certo numero di fattori sull’inflazione greca. La base teorica è fornita dalla tesi monetarista che considera contemporaneamente l’offerta di moneta e la domanda di moneta. Nella stima del modello di inflazione viene impiegata una struttura flessibile del ritardo, mentre la funzione fondamentale della domanda di moneta incorpora l’effetto possibile dei fattori monetari esteri. Inoltre, è esplicitamente riconosciuto e verificato il problema potenziale di simultaneità. I risultati empirici trimestrali ottenuti per il periodo 1963-1981 offrono un sostegno coerente con la tesi monetarista dell’inflazione nel caso della Grecia. Per quanto concerne le implicazioni politiche, si reputa ingrediente necessario nella lotta contro 1’inflazione una sostanziale riduzione della elevata crescita di moneta.
