Abstract

Communication is the hallmark of human existence. It is the fulcrum with which humans relates and live their lives. However, in our contemporary world that is characterized by multiculturalism, there seems to be lack of real communication among peoples of different cultures. It is this need that brought about this paper that considers ethno-communication and sustainable development in the third world. The method adopted in this study is library research. Efforts were made to extensively examine relevant concepts like communication, ethno-communication and the third world. Additionally, an analysis of the link between ethno-communication and sustainable development in the third world was done in order to provide a basis for improving communication in our multicultural world. Observably, we note that though several developmental efforts to upturn the misfortune of third world countries have been made by several governments/economies, the bane of underdevelopment remains an unbundled puzzle for third world economies. This is clearly traceable to arguments that the developmental efforts so far were only exogenous and mainly emanated from the drivers of those efforts, who are the foreign development partners. Based on the aforesaid, this study suggests that ethnocommunication should be prioritized and applied in the quest for achieving sustainable development for third world economies
